Construction Update: Union Station (March 19, 2013)

Regional Bus Facility (LRT to DUS Building)
In the interior of the bus facility, crews are continuing the installation of the electrical/mechanical rough-ins, fire protection and lighting. The installation of insulation, drywall, and the metal panels that are the final finishes in the pedestrian concourse are in progress as is the installation of the “store front” glass that separates the pedestrian concourse from the bus loading area. Paving of the sidewalk and bus slips outside of the pedestrian concourse is taking place. Crews are also working on the stairs, escalators, and elevator from the CRT platforms to the underground bus facility.
Commuter Rail (CRT) and Train Hall
Erection of the steel canopy for the commuter rail train hall is complete and the large crane will be taken apart and moved from the construction site.  Crews will continue to do touch-up painting on the steel canopy and install the sign bands. Additionally, work is continuing on the Amtrak canopy and “tech trusses” (structure on platforms within Train Hall).
Work on the commuter rail train platform extensions and assembly and erection of the associated wall is in progress. This work includes grading, installing conduit, storm drains, and backfill. The picture below is of the pre-cast walls for platform # 3.  Pedestrian bridge construction is being initiated as well.
